  Installing Courseware Plugins

These instructions will help you install and configure the necessary software required to run PLATO® courseware. Follow the links below to read instructions for Macintosh® or Windows® computers. Be sure to follow the appropriate instructions for your situation.

Note
We recommend that the instructor or lab manager perform the plugin downloads on each workstation prior to first student use. Doing so will enable students to quickly log on, access courseware and begin learning.

Install latest Adobe® Acrobat® Reader to view any of the portable document format (pdf) files accessed from the user guides link.
Macintosh Users
  1. Download the PLATO Mac Installer for MacOSX, and the Macromedia® FlashTM Player Installer or Macromedia Flash Player Installer for MacOSX.
  2. Locate the programs on your desktop, and double-click to run them.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  4. If you will be using the elementary courseware, download and run the Macromedia Shockwave® Player Installer or Macromedia Shockwave Player Installer for MacOSX and PLATO Xtras plugins.
  5. If you will be using the Cyber Ed® courseware, download and install the Macromedia Authorware® Player Installer.
Windows PC Users
  1. Click here to download plug-ins.
  2. Save the PWLNINST.EXE file to a folder on your hard drive. Be sure to remember where you saved the file.
  3. Click OK when the Setup completed successfully dialog displays. You do NOT need to restart your browser yet.
  4. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to where you saved the file.
  5. Double-click the PWLNINST.EXE file to run it.
  6. Click OK when the Setup completed successfully dialog displays.
  7. If you will be using the elementary courseware, download and run the Macromedia Shockwave Player Installer and PLATO Xtras plugins (requires administrative privileges).

    If you will NOT be using the elementary courseware, go to step 8.

  1. If you have Internet Explorer®, download and run this Macromedia Flash Player Installer.

    If you have Netscape®, download and run this Macromedia Flash Player Installer.

  1. If you have Internet Explorer®, and will be using the Cyber Ed courseware, download and install this Macromedia Authorware Player Installer.

    If you have Netscape®, and will be using the Cyber Ed courseware, download and install this Macromedia Authorware Player Installer.

    If you will NOT be using the Cyber Ed courseware, go to step 10.

  1. Click OK when the Setup completed successfully dialog displays.
  2. Restart the web browser to activate changes.
  3. Log into the PLATO Web Learning Network.
